In our latest podcast episode, we look at the possible renaissance of a tried-and-tested financing instrument - the bill of exchange. Today's panellists Heike Nine (Rewe Group), Matthias Cork (Rewe Group), Markus Rupprecht (PwC Germany) and Jan Osenegg (departmental member of the Association of German Treasurers) talk about the regulatory framework and the potential uses of the (digital) bill of exchange. A classic bill of exchange acts as a payment function, combined with a credit and hedging function. However, the paper-based & administrative effort is increasingly standing in the way of wider use. The digital bill of exchange, also known as "BexNote", offers companies and investors many advantages over traditional supply chain finance programmes, which we discuss from various perspectives. We also take a look into the future: our experts had some promising answers to the question of where the digital bill of exchange will be in 5 years' time.
