Cash & Liquidity Department

The Cash & Liquidity department focuses on the key challenges relating to liquidity, cash flows and treasury organisation. The focus is on practical topics such as cash and liquidity management, working capital, technical platforms and the design of efficient processes and structures.

The department brings together a wide range of specialist expertise. Several active working groups continuously address current practical issues and, on this basis, develop well-founded solutions and produce valuable output for VDT members.

The team consists of experienced corporate treasurers, supplemented by the specialist knowledge of supporting members and partners from the consultancy and banking sectors. This broad expertise enables the department to respond to developments in the financial markets, take into account the impetus provided by digitalisation, and assess regulatory changes.

The aim of the department is to provide VDT members with in-depth knowledge, market trends and practical solutions – always with a focus on adding value to day-to-day operations and the strategic development of the treasury function. To this end, the team utilises a variety of formats – ranging from specialist articles and online events to workshops and conferences.

Our working groups

Fraud Prevention

The working group aims to provide impetus for appropriate measures to combat fraud scenarios, cyber-attacks and blackouts, and to outline action plans for prevention and emergency situations. Among other things, the focus is on contingency planning and training programmes.

Crypto

The aim of the working group is to support our members with any queries relating to crypto, digital currency, tokenisation and blockchain/DLT technology in the world of payments and treasury. We aim to impart and share knowledge. To this end, we provide information and define best-practice standards and use cases for treasury.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) in liquidity planning

The working group is planning an introduction to the topic of “Artificial Intelligence (AI) in liquidity planning” and aims, amongst other things, to highlight the prerequisites for its use and the benefits of AI-supported liquidity planning. Through a series of interviews, corporates, consultants and software providers will share their experiences.

Potential uses of virtual accounts

The areas of application for virtual accounts are diverse and are often directly linked to centralisation efforts. The working group examines various concepts and use cases for virtual accounts, best-practice approaches, as well as the challenges and lessons learnt from implementation projects.

API – the interface of the future in treasury?

Open interfaces – or APIs, for short – provide businesses with a new technology for exchanging information. However, the interface requires standardisation in terms of both technical specifications and content. The working group aims to provide guidance and background information in this area.

ePayments

Payment methods in e-commerce are constantly changing and expanding, and as a new component of the payments system, they present a challenge for corporate treasury. The working group focuses on the holistic use of these e-payments – from IT and compliance right through to the company’s financial processes.

Know Your Customer (KYC)

Building on the guidelines for the KYC process that have already been drawn up, we are now establishing contacts with other treasury associations in order to share the existing findings and generate new ideas.

Regulation

The department takes part in consultations to represent the Treasury’s position; this includes issues relating to developments in payment systems and the relevant regulatory framework. Currently, the focus is particularly on PSD2, instant payments and the digital euro.

Advocacy

In order to address the concerns of treasurers in the area of cash and liquidity, the department regularly exchanges views on payment systems issues with representatives of banking associations and the Deutsche Bundesbank, amongst others. Furthermore, the association is represented on the Deutsche Bundesbank’s Payment Systems Forum.

Digitisation of documentary foreign trade processing

We highlight the potential that the digitalisation of documentary foreign trade processing offers corporate treasury departments and provide an overview of the various providers on the market. Through regular dialogue with stakeholders such as trade associations and committees, we are committed to driving this digital transformation forward.
