At the VDT symposium at the end of November, the strategic topics that will influence the work of treasurers in the coming years were highlighted.

The two departments Equity & Debt and Risk Management from the German association of Corporate Treasurer held a joint symposium on 30 November 2023 on the topic of "R4 - Treasury in the field of friction between predators, regulation, rainforest and robots" invited. An exciting programme covering all aspects of strategic corporate management awaited the participants.


At the beginning Dr Vera Demary (Head of the Digitalisation and Climate Change Cluster, Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft Köln e.V.) spoke about the challenges facing companies as a result of advancing digitalisation and climate change. This was followed by a short keynote speech by Thomas Schnarr (Partner, Financial Services, Head of Corporate Risk & Resilience, Oliver Wyman GmbH), who highlighted the challenges from the perspective of corporate clients. Thomas Schnarr then discussed together with Eddy Henning (Head of Wholesale Banking, Member of the Management Board, ING Germany), Dr Michael Schleef (CEO HSBC Germany, HSBC) and Ingrid Spletter-White (Board Member for Corporate Customers, Treasury and Markets, NORD/LB) on the effects they expect for corporate customers.


After a lunch and networking break, we started with a short presentation by Dr Pascal Vogt (Partner & Director, Global Leader Treasury & Balance Sheet Management, Boston Consulting Group) kicked off the afternoon. In the subsequent second round of talks of the day, in which Pascal Vogt also took part, the following speakers spoke Dr Mani Herold (CFO, Rodenstock GmbH), Dr Markus E. Fischer (CFO and member of the Executive Board, CargoBeamer AG) and Peter Radtke (Head of Corporate Finance & Treasury, KUKA AG) from a CFO and treasury perspective on the upcoming topics.


In conclusion, the Jean Dohrmann (Head of Treasury, Software AG) spoke about her experiences during a cyberattack after a short coffee break. This report was supplemented by Marko Hamel (CISA, CRISC, Compliance, Security and Risk Expert, SAP SE) and Marcel Armon (Chief Specialty Officer (DACH), CEO Aon Austria, Aon) with their experiences before Dirk Gödde (Vice President, Corporate Finance Group EMEA, Moody's Deutschland GmbH) gave an insight into the influence of cyber risk on credit ratings.

Bastian Frien (FINANCE Think Tank) moderated the day.
