Equity & Debt Department

The Equity & Debt Division deals with issues relating to debt and equity capital, as well as internal corporate financing. Based on the needs of VDT members, the division’s team shares expertise, provides information on current market developments and represents the interests of VDT members in discussions with regulators and other market participants.

The core of the Equity & Debt team consists of treasurers with a wealth of experience in corporate finance, supplemented by the specialist knowledge of supporting members, who ensure that the team has constant access to relevant developments in the financial markets and in the regulatory landscape.

In our communications with members, we aim to provide added value by presenting topics – which are otherwise often viewed in a one-dimensional way – from the treasurer’s perspective in a comprehensive manner.

Andreas Sowa

Regulatory requirements will continue to have a growing influence on a company’s financing. We aim to keep our members informed at an early stage about relevant developments and to highlight possible courses of action. The initial focus will be on ESG and the capital adequacy requirements for loans.

From 1 November 2016 to 27 October 2022, Andreas Sowa was a member of the Executive Board of VDT e.V., where he was responsible for the Equity & Debt division. Since 27 October 2022, he has continued to head the department as a member of the Executive Committee.

ESG

The Equity & Debt department works closely with the other VDT departments on treasury-related aspects of ESG.

Supply Chain Financing

As part of the process of transposing the Basel IV requirements into EU law, unsecured credit facilities are likely to become more expensive. We would therefore like to provide information on alternatives such as asset-based lending and reverse factoring.

Capital market financing

When should a company consider obtaining a credit rating? What pitfalls can arise from covenants, and must LMA standards always be followed?

Funding

When is it worth a business considering the use of subsidised loans or grants? We would like to provide some information on this.

Best practice guidance

We are currently drawing up best-practice guidelines on a range of financing issues.
