Gross negligence – a concept in civil law and criminal law.
An act of gross negligence is attributed to a person who disregards very simple and obvious considerations that would have prevented damage. According to established case law, a person acts with gross negligence if they breach the required standard of care to an unusually high degree, given the circumstances as a whole, and disregard what should have been obvious to anyone.
