The current trend in inflation in Germany has brought the hedging of inflation risks by companies in this country back onto the agenda. Following a period of stabilisation, the inflation rate rose noticeably again in March 2026 to around 2.7 per cent, placing it above the European Central Bank’s target. There has been no sign of the situation easing in April either. The inflation rate in Germany rose to 2.9 per cent in April.

In today’s podcast episode, we’ll be looking at why treasurers should factor inflation risks into their financial risk management, what options they have for hedging against them, and what costs are involved.

Dr Volker Anhäuser is a hedging specialist and has been working as a relationship manager at the French investment bank Natixis CIB since the start of the year. Prior to this, the economist, who holds a PhD, worked for the French bank BNP Paribas for almost 20 years.

Sabine Paulus is Editorial Treasury Manager for the Equity & Debt and Risk Management departments at VDT e.V.
