In a two-part podcast, we take a look at the Australia and Oceania region. Germany is Australia’s second most important trading partner in Europe after the United Kingdom. A free trade agreement between the EU and Australia, which has been under negotiation since 2018, is intended to further strengthen economic ties.

A number of German companies operate in Australia, where they have project-based business, a subsidiary or even a production facility. New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and Papua New Guinea are also exciting export markets for German companies. But what local challenges do the treasury departments of these companies face?

In this second part of the two-part podcast episode, we once again join Alexander Spieker, Burkhard Grimm, Philipp Nies and Ender Tanar to examine the topics of risk management and financing.

Alexander Spieker has been working as an interim manager in the field of corporate treasury for medium-sized companies for several years; he has been a member of the VDT for more than a decade and has been actively involved in the VDT’s Risk Management division for many years.

Burkhard Grimm is Senior Vice President and Head of Group Treasury at Rheinmetall AG, a member of the VDT, and has been actively involved in the VDT’s Asset Management division for many years.

Philipp Nies is a Senior Treasury Manager in the Middle Office Management team at the DHL Group.

Ender Tanar heads up ANZ Banking Group’s German operations.

Sabine Paulus is Editorial Treasury Manager at VDT e.V.
