European Allowances (EUA) also known as an emissions certificate or emissions authorisation. Each certificate entitles the holder to emit one tonne of CO₂ or a CO₂ equivalent within a certain period of time. The certificates are distributed free of charge by the state; however, additional requirements must be purchased on the market.
