Digital EuroThe European Central Bank (ECB) is analysing the introduction of a digital central bank currency for the eurozone, which would be issued by the Eurosystem (the ECB and the national central banks of the eurozone). The so-called digital euro is intended to be available to private individuals and companies in addition to cash and thus enable more payment options. The decision on whether to launch the "digital euro" project is to be made by mid-2021 at the latest. (Publication date 22.03.2021)
