Decentralised Finance (DeFi): stands for a decentralised financial infrastructure (peer-to-peer) based on blockchain technology. Smart contracts are used to create protocols that replicate existing financial services without intermediaries in a more open, interoperable and transparent way. DeFi already offers a variety of application areas: e.g. buying US dollar-pegged assets (so-called stablecoins) on decentralised exchanges, moving these assets to an equally decentralised lending platform and then adding interest-bearing instruments to a decentralised liquidity pool.
